Was Boba Fett Responsible for Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru’s Death?
Over the years, Star Wars fans have dissected every frame of the original trilogy—but one theory refuses to die: Was Boba Fett responsible for Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru’s death? The films point to stormtroopers, but a growing number of fans think there might have been another hand at work—one far more calculating.

Stormtroopers or Something More?
In A New Hope, Luke comes home to a nightmare: his aunt and uncle are dead, and their homestead is nothing but smoldering rubble. We’re told Imperial troops did it while hunting for R2-D2 and the Death Star plans. Seems plausible, right?
But something about it doesn’t sit right with some fans. The level of destruction feels personal—overkill for a couple of moisture farmers. That’s where Boba Fett enters the conversation.
Why Boba Fett Makes Sense to Some Fans
The idea that Boba Fett was responsible for Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru isn’t canon, but it’s not without reason. For one, Fett and Vader had history even before The Empire Strikes Back. If the Empire needed someone discreet to track the droid, Fett would’ve been the guy.
More importantly, the violence at the Lars homestead was unusually brutal. Fett was known for getting results—and not asking too many questions. Could Vader have hired him to handle the job off the books? It fits his M.O.
The bounty hunter’s skill set and cold efficiency might explain why the Lars family wasn’t just killed—they were incinerated.

Still Just a Theory—For Now
As of now, the theory has no official backing. Lucasfilm hasn’t confirmed anything, and the official story still blames the stormtroopers. But Star Wars has a habit of recontextualizing its past. Just look at how Kenobi added new layers to long-established events.
Could a future show or comic twist the narrative and pull Boba Fett into that fateful scene on Tatooine? Never say never.
